DESCRIPTION
Don't let the conservative image fool you, their music is as far away from Catholicism as it comes. Frank Peterson, the renowned, long-serving producer of Sarah Brightman, had the idea of integrating Gregorian chant with pop music in the eighties. He teamed together with Michael Cretu and David Fairstein and created Enigma who had a worldwide hit with Peterson's co-written 'Sadeness (Part I)'. Peterson left the project soon after, but took the idea of Gregorian and pop with him. He briefly put this into motion on his own in 1991, releasing an album titled Sadisfaction, but it wasn't until 1999 that he truly began the project he dreamed of. Gregorian has become a surprise success in Germany. They frequently tour there, and have released several DVDs. Unlike Enigma, this project is devoted to pop and classic rock, and dodges electronica and new age.  As time has gone on, Peterson has concentrated on a more gothic sound. They cover well known chart hits, such as 'Vienna', 'Tears In Heaven', 'With or Without You', 'Sacrifice' and 'My Immortal'. It sounds bizarre, and it shouldn't work, but it does.   They also have the odd original song, frequently offered by Amelia Brightman. She and her sister, Sarah Brightman, often lend their vocals to the project. Due to the ambiguity of their name, it's best to search them as 'Gregorian: Masters of Chant' which is how they have named most of their albums.
