ARTIST OVERALL RATINGS
Tayla Alexander shows extraordinary promise as an eleven year old soprano who sounds very similar to Hayley Westenra when she was her age. Alexander has a pleasing pure vocal and sounds remarkably pretty. Like Westenra, Alexander hails from New Zealand and gained her record deal by discussing Justin Beiber in a Marbecks music store. She told the store owner, Paul Zwaig, that she could sing too and he challanged her to sing there and then. After singing 'Pie Jesu' an impressed Zwaig recorded a demo and she found herself swiftly signed. Her debut album, Songbird, does nothing to push boundaries and there isn't much there to hint at a musical identity, but at just eleven, Alexander has all the time she needs to grow and mature. There is much to look forward to in this young kiwi's bright future.
