DESCRIPTION
The idea of Il Divo came to Simon Cowell after hearing 'Time To Say Goodbye' by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman which had achieved great commercial success. Cowell created the group over a two year period eventually recruiting Carlos Marín, Urs Bühler, David Miller, and Sébastien Izambard. Il Divo is one of the most successful classical crossover artists, with only Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli selling more albums. They mostly convert English pop songs into an operatic format, changing the language into Italian, Spanish, Latin or French, though they sometimes keep the lyrics in English. Il Divo is the every inch a Cowell product. They do not grow as artists and every album keeps to the safe tried and tested formula. But it works, and they sell. Il Divo is for the more traditional fans of classical crossover that enjoy hearing already well known songs given the operatic and smart suit treatment.
