DESCRIPTION
Welsh tenor Wynne Evans truly came to fame in a unique way in the UK. An opera singer for over fifteen years, Evans was finally offered a record deal by Warner after his casting in an insurance advert got him nationwide attention. Evans is better known as Gio Compario from the Gocompare.com marketing campaign, but his debut album, Songs In My Heart, has seen him go straight to the top of the classical charts, leaving his comical alter ego far behind. Heavily inspired by crossover pioneer Mario Lanza, Evans's material can be basically considered a tribute to Lanza's work. Evans favours interpretation rather than technique (though he excels at both) which makes him incredibly accessible and marketable to the crossover audience. His performances are always emotive and his voice is rich and warm. Evans has excellent potential for furthering his career to the dizzying heights of Alfie Boe or Russell Watson.
