DESCRIPTION
Chances are you've heard Fiona Pears play before, you just didn't realise. She does a lot for EMI in the UK, recording on albums for Libera, All Angels, Aled Jones and others. She also joins the likes of Il Divo and Heather Nova on stage; but she is most strongly associated with her fellow New Zealander Hayley Westenra who she toured with relentlessly for several years and features on the soprano's albums. Throughout her time working with other artists, Pears has been recording her own albums and releasing them independently. Her music varies in style, adopting folk, gypsy and celtic traditions as well as classical. Unusually for a classical violinist, Pears composes and arranges much of her own music, and never so much so than on her latest album Fire and Light which saw her collaborate with the highly esteemed City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Passionate, talented and original, Pears will appeal to fans of Nigel Kennedy and Lucia Micarelli; the latter sharing the same flair of creativity that doesn't use the drum beat cop-out.
